     the Cost of Dam Maintenance
      >>  February 17, 2010

Oxford Town Manager Michael Chammings addressed the Otisfield selectmen at their regular meeting on February 17.  Chammings expressed the concerns of the town of Oxford over absorbing the future maintenance costs of the dam at the former Robinson mill, which controls the outlet from Thompson Lake.  Chammings asked the Otisfield selectmen to approve the town’s investing $5,000 in a reserve fund earmarked for dam repairs.  He stated that he will make similar requests of the other towns on the lake.  First selectman Hal Ferguson responded sympathetically but said that the selectmen would want to see the arrangement formalized in writing before they took action.  During the discussion Chammings pledged that Oxford would do its best to maintain the monthly lake water levels agreed upon years ago by Robinson and TLEA.  For background on this, click HERE to see the article on page 13 of the 2009 Fall Observer.
